Welcome to the exciting sport of Ultimate! Cathedral Ultimate Frisbee is a club sport, not sanctioned by the Minnesota State High School League.  What this means is we rely on fundraising and PARENT PARTICIPATION.  Many hands make light work, so the more parents that are involved, the easier it is on everyone.

It is played in the Spring, and all boys and girls in grades 6-12 are welcome to join. We welcome players from surrounding area high schools as Cathedral currently has the only team in the St. Cloud area. Our season consists of practices during the week, which usually start around early to mid March, and weekend tournaments from late April to early June. Cathedral Ultimate Club sponsors 2 tournaments a year. In late April, we host a one day, JV only tournament. In early May, we host a two day, open tournament.

How is Ultimate played?

Ultimate is played in more than 42 countries by hundreds of thousands of people of all ages. Combining the non-stop movement and athletic endurance of soccer with the aerial passing skills of football, a game of Ultimate is played by two seven-player squads with a high-tech plastic disc on a field similar to football.

The object of the game is to score by catching a pass in the opponent’s end zone. A player must stop running while in possession of the disc, but may pivot and pass to any other teammates on the field. Ultimate is a transition game in which players move quickly from offense to defense on turnovers that occur with a dropped pass, an interception, a pass out of bounds, or when a player is caught holding the disc for more than ten seconds.

After watching the video, you may have noticed that there are no referees. That is because Ultimate Frisbee is self-refereed and based on Spirit of the Game.

Spirit of the Game: “Ultimate relies upon a spirit of sportsmanship that places the responsibility for fair play on the player. Highly competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of mutual respect among competitors, adherence to the agreed upon rules, or the basic joy of play.  Protection of these vital elements serves to eliminate unsportsmanlike conduct from the Ultimate field.  Such actions as taunting opposing players, dangerous aggression, belligerent intimidation, intentional infractions, or other win-at-all-costs behavior are contrary to the spirit of the game and must be avoided by all players.”* Please click on the link for an explanation of  how Spirit of the Game works.
